Every Little Secret (Second Chances #2) (16 page)

We slide off our pants, leaving them in a crumpled pile in the sand. He steps close, his chest up against mine. “Ready?” he whispers.

“Ready.” I twine my fingers through his.

A smile lights his face, and I shiver in anticipation. He gives me one last lingering kiss. Then we both turn and sprint. The wind whips through my hair then the icy cold foam hits my legs and splashes against my body.

I half-laugh half-scream. “Don’t turn back!”

Seconds later, we plunge together under the waves, surfacing with our arms around each other. His mouth finds mine, the salty water dripping off us.

He kisses my cheek. “You’re right. Sometimes it’s better fast.”

I kiss his nose, my lips shivering from the cold. “You’d better get used to me being right.”

“Once more?”

With that we laugh and duck under the next wave, ready to wash away the past and start new with every little secret turned into something more, something better.

A future, bright and hopeful.
