Apocalyptic Moon (After the Bane) (38 page)

“The werewolf Rave thinks is hot?”

Dirk shook his head and scoffed. “Yeah, him. He was in England and killed all the hunters who slaughtered his pack. He returned, vowing to kill Jaeger. Except for the fact my mate is a witch, and against their doctrine, I’m almost tempted to join him.”

“Hey, it’s not like we’re married.”

“The hell it’s not.” He drew her in and reclaimed her mouth with a possessive kiss. The kiss swept her into forgetful bliss. No responsibilities, no Benandanti burning her at the stake and no zombies. Just one alpha werewolf, ravenous for his mate. Much to her disappointment, he released her, leaving her dizzy with lust. His eyes twinkled. “Actually, I have another more important reason I was late. Josh directed me to a jewelry store at the foothills of the Sierra.”

Reaching into this pocket, he took out an engagement ring, and knelt. The exquisite yellow gold with a large central diamond sparkled like a thousand points of light. Side diamonds accentuated the beauty of the central stone. Her eyes widened and her stomach did somersaults.

“Dora Adler, will you make me the happiest werewolf and marry me?”

“Yes…yes…yes!”

He placed the ring on her finger and stood. “How about we marry on May thirteenth?”

“On my birthday? Why not now?”

He quirked a smile. “We could but your brother would kill me. He’s got it all planned out and besides didn’t you say he gave you a paid vacation for some Hawaiian get away for your twenty-eighth birthday?”

“And share our honeymoon with island zombies? Not a chance.”

“Tell you what, I’ll endure your brother’s wrath and have Talon marry us tonight.”

Dora admired her ring. “Works for me.”
