Chapter Six

Josie

“Hellfire, Riley, you’re going to yank my arm clean out of
its socket,” I said as I tried to keep from being dragged across the strip-mall
parking lot. “What’s the rush?”

“We got a schedule to keep,” he said. Riley’d had a fool
grin on his face since he showed up at my place that morning to take me on what
he billed as a mystery date. I suspected that meant more than I was in the mood
for when he mentioned leaving Roscoe to play with his sister Odelle’s kids.
Riley laughed as he pulled me along. “Come on, girl, quit dragging your boots.”

He hauled me to the door of the Mayfield Magic Beauty
Academy. “Here we are,” he announced. “You’re getting the full treatment. Hair,
makeup, the works.” He noted my unenthused expression. “Come on, Josie. Girls
love a Cinderella makeover. Makes them feel better after a breakup.”

“Not this girl. Sitting at home with a bottle of apple wine
was more my plan.”

Just then Paige Bishop came bouncing out of the beauty
school with a big smile on her face and squealed, “Riley!” I rolled my eyes at
how yet another woman had succumbed to the charms of Wanamaker Happy.

Paige grinned at Riley. “I did just what you told me to with
my boyfriend,” she said. Then she flashed a sparkling ring on her left hand. I
had to admit I was surprised and impressed when Riley hooted congratulations
and gave Paige a brotherly hug.

I guessed rightly that Paige was so grateful for whatever
Riley had done for her love life that my beauty treatment would be both
luxurious and on the house. I put up a small fight until Paige and her team
started massaging my hands, feet and head simultaneously. That did distract me
from the pain of what I’d done to Miles. A glass of chilled wine quieted me
further as the beauty elves went to work.

Two hours later Paige and her girls were done. Riley told
them not to let me see the results just yet so all the mirrors around me had
been covered with towels. Then he led me into a changing room and pointed at a
garment bag. “Get dressed,” he said, “and hurry. The limo will be here soon.”

“What? A limo? Where in blazes are we going?”

Riley’s grin was equal parts mischief and something new I
couldn’t quite identify. “Just humor me,” he said before he closed the curtain
and disappeared.

A few minutes later Riley came busting back into the
dressing room and found me transfixed before the mirror. On a given day I knew I
wasn’t exactly hard on the eyes but today I was a sight to see. Paige and the
beauty girls had blown my auburn hair shiny as glass and smooth as a silken
waterfall down my back. The makeup they’d done highlighted the green in my eyes
and left my lips shimmery and tantalizing.

From who knew where my fairy god-brother Riley had procured
a stunner of a dress. The halter cinched at my neck and left my arms and back
bare. The shimmery white fabric hugged my impressive curves until it stopped at
my knees and pooled at the floor in the back. Anyone else would’ve paired the
dress with spiked heels. Riley knew to get me Josie-style footwear, a set of
silver cowgirl boots. The way I felt, they might as well have been glass
slippers.

“Shitfire,” Riley breathed. “Josie. I always said you were a
beauty, but
wow
. A man could come just looking at you.”

The spell finally broke. I turned and grabbed Riley by the
lapels. “What in blazes is all this about?” Then I realized I was holding a
fistful of a tuxedo jacket. Riley was all duded up in a swank suit and had
traded in his sneakers for dress shoes. His hair was finally tamed to smooth,
chestnut waves. He was freshly shaved and smelled of delicious man cologne. He
struck a casual model pose and the handcuffs on his wrist clanked. “I’m not
sure those quite go with the
GQ
look,” I commented.

Riley grinned. “I think they lend something distinctly me.”

I sighed and folded my arms. “Okay, I get it now. You think
you’re taking me to the premiere of Miles’ movie in New York City. But I’m not
going.”

“Hell yeah you are, Josie. I didn’t have Paige get us all
shined up and sweet-talk this monkey suit out of Miz Bennet and call in a favor
with Hep Cummings for a white stretch limo just so we could go to the Dee-Luxe
and have burgers and malts.”

Riley cut off my protest when he took me by the shoulders.
“Josie, if it’s one thing I know about, it’s relationships. I may have fucked
half of Mayfield but I’ve helped half of it too. You’ve seen what I did for
Paige and Virgil and a whole bunch of others. Now I can do something for you.
Josie, it’s time to let go of this old hurt you’re hanging on to. I know your
heart got all busted up. I’ve been there too.”

His eyes went a tad misty for a moment before he looked back
at me. “I won’t let that keep me down. And I’m not going to let your one bad
time screw up the good thing you could have with Miles Masterson. I can tell
how you feel about him. And I know he feels the same of you.”

As Riley took my hands I looked down at the words scripted
on my forearm. I knew I’d never be true to myself if I didn’t admit I’d fallen
for Miles. But for all the greatness of Riley’s speech it came too late. “I
hurt Miles bad,” I murmured as I tried to keep the tears back. “He won’t even
want to see me.”

Riley scoffed and rolled his eyes. “With you looking like
this? Hell if he doesn’t do you right on the red carpet.” He took my hand and
dragged me out of the dressing room. “Come on, girl! Let’s go be VIPs!”

Two hours later our limousine pulled up in front of a madhouse.
The front of the famous Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City was packed with
screaming fans and TV crews and security guards holding them all back from the
entrance. I looked out the tinted window and felt downright daunted. “Riley,
how are we ever going to get in?”

“You just leave that to me.” He winked as our driver opened
the car door.

Because we were getting out of a limo and were all duded up,
the crowd reckoned we were important and screamed for us. Riley smiled and
waved as if he were a true celebrity. I tried to look through the hollering
masses to find Miles but couldn’t see a thing past them or a stern-looking
woman holding a clipboard at the velvet rope. Riley grabbed my hand and made a
beeline for her.

“Well, hello there, darlin’,” he said. I noticed he put some
extra honey in the already sweet Mayfield drawl. “You’re just the gal I’ve been
looking for.”

The woman’s expression was jaded but I saw her eyes light up
a tad as she took in the red-carpet version of Riley. She was somewhere in her
forties and wearing them well. Her blonde hair was in an updo that highlighted
her elegant features. Her body was wrapped in a sexy black minidress. Her
spiked heels almost had her on eye level with Riley. “And why were you looking
for me?” she purred.

“I make it a habit to find the prettiest woman at a party,”
Riley said, giving her those big brown
let me fuck you senseless
eyes.

She drank that look in as though it were fresh lemonade
before noticing me. “I’m hoping you didn’t just insult your girlfriend here.”

Riley shook his head. “She’s Miles Masterson’s girl.”

“Really.” The woman raised a perfectly arched eyebrow. “I
don’t know anything about that and I’m Miles Masterson’s publicist.”

“Is that a fact?” Riley licked his full lips. “Shitfire, I
do get turned-on by a powerful woman. Riley Wanamaker, at your service. And I
mean that in the most sincere and suggestive way possible.” When he held out
his hand the cuffs on his wrist clanked against her clipboard.

The woman didn’t miss a beat as she took Riley’s hand.
“Candy DuChamp. Nice cufflinks you’ve got there. Maybe we can play with them
later.” Without taking her eyes from Riley’s she undid the velvet rope and let
me onto the red carpet. I looked back to see if Riley was coming but he was
already leaning in to kiss Candy. The handcuffs jingled as he waved me on.

“Miss! Hey miss, this way!” I turned and a bunch of
photographers started madly taking pictures of me. They thought I was someone
important. The crowd reckoned that since I was on the red carpet I must be a
celebrity and they screamed again.

The ruckus made a group of people near the theater turn
around to see who was coming. As they parted, I saw Miles.

My heart felt whole again at the sight of him. He looked
every inch the star he would be in his dark-silver suit and black shirt. His
thick blond hair was slicked away from his high-cut cheekbones. Some of the
gold razor stubble that had teased my lips during our first kiss was back. That
merry look came to his denim-blue eyes as he took me in. His smile was a glory
to behold. And it was all for me.

The way we ran to each other was something right out of a
movie. Miles swung me around before he set me down to look at me again.
“Josie,” he breathed. “You’re here. You came after all.”

“There’s something I needed to tell you. Something you
wanted me to admit that I know is true.” He looked at me hopefully as I
gathered up my courage. “We’re right together, Miles. I want to be yours. If
you still want to be mine.”

As he pulled me into his arms I was nearly blinded by the
flashbulbs popping crazily around us. Then again that might have been the stars
I always saw whenever Miles Masterson kissed me.

Chapter Seven

Riley

Champagne surely did taste better than the swill on tap at
Stubby’s. And it was hard not to gawp like the rube I was at the view from the
balcony of a penthouse overlooking Central Park South. Beyond the treetops all
of New York City glittered before me as though someone had spilled a bag of
multicolored jewels on the black velvet of the night.

Candy DuChamp had done this balcony up right nice with plush
outdoor furniture and night-blooming jasmine to scent the air and candles to
give it a glow. This was kind of like being in a treehouse. A million-dollar
one.

I turned as I heard Candy step onto the terrace to join me.
The way her hips moved with sensual grace made me lick my lips. I could tell
this one was a tigress. She smiled as she leaned on the ledge of the balcony
and gave me a chance to admire her again. She was one damn fine woman.

“So tell me, Riley,” Candy said as she shifted to let her
black silk dress fall away from her cleavage just a hint. “What exactly do you
do?”

“Women.” My smile was hardly innocent. “And I do them very
well.”

Candy laughed but looked mighty interested. “Is that your
business?”

“Sort of. You might say I’m an expert on making love. Not a
paid expert,” I said. “I just like pleasing women. Sometimes I teach them how
to handle a man in bed or give my buddies advice on how to treat their ladies
better.”

A hungry look warmed Candy’s eyes. “You’re that good?”

I pulled at one end of my bow tie and slid it smoothly from
my shirt collar. “I don’t want to appear the braggart. I’d rather you be the
judge.” I undid the first few buttons of my shirt. “Tell me, darlin’, has anybody
ever made good love to you on this balcony on a pretty summer night like this?”

Candy took a sip of her champagne and shook her head. “Not
good love, no.”

“Now that is a damn shame.” I held her eyes as I shook off
my jacket and began my striptease. “A beautiful woman wasted on some fool who
doesn’t know how to make that hot body sing.” I pulled my shirt over my head to
make my abs flex.

The pleased and heated look in Candy’s eyes made my cock go
hard fast.

My hands caressed her silk-wrapped waist as I pulled her
close. “I can tell already that you’re going to feel real good under me.” I
brushed my lips against her temple. “And on top of me.” I touched light kisses
down her neck. “And in front of me. Maybe even behind me.”

Candy’s breathing deepened. Her head tilted back to bare
more of her skin for my lips. “You don’t think I’m too old for you?” she
whispered.

I nuzzled her ear and skimmed my tongue along the outside.
“Older women know more about making love,” I murmured. “Their confidence gets
me hard.” I framed her beautiful face with my hands and admired the lovely gray
of her eyes. “Older women are the only ones who can impress me.”

If I had a million bucks I’d have paid it gladly for the
smile Candy gave me.

We leaned together at the same time and shared a kiss so
soft and easy it was as if it were the thousandth time instead of the first.
She let me part her lips and taste her champagne-flavored mouth. I pulled her
body against mine and felt the silk all over her toned figure. Her perfume made
me lose my head a tad. Everything about this woman was getting me hopped up
fast.

When I unzipped her dress and started caressing the small of
her back she jumped. “Oh honey,” she laughed, “those cufflinks of yours are
cold.”

I looked at my wrist and frowned at the handcuffs. “Sorry.
Just a day in the life. I can’t get ’em off,” I growled as I pulled the metal
against my already bruised wrist.

Candy put her cool fingers on my hands to stop me. “You’re
not a well-dressed escaped convict, are you?”

With a chuckle I shook my head. “I try my best not to break
laws or hearts.” Candy seemed satisfied with that answer and reached up to take
a bobby pin out of her updo. Her blonde hair fell down to her shoulders so
sexily I couldn’t concentrate on what she was doing at my wrist. Next thing I
knew the cuff clicked open and I was free. “Hey! How’d you do that?”

“A little skill I picked up out of necessity,” she said with
a wink.

My heart started pounding. I believed I’d just found me a
kindred spirit.

The handcuffs fell to the floor with a clank as I grabbed
Candy and kissed her hard. Her mouth was just as hungry for me. Our tongues did
a tribal dance of passion as my hands ate her up everywhere. One of her legs
wrapped around my waist and she ground her pussy against my stiff tool. I had
to break from the kiss to moan out loud. Candy looked right pleased with
herself. Almost as pleased as I was with her.

Us being apart for the moment let me finish undressing her.
I peeled the black silk away from her creamy skin and found her slim body in
the sexiest red lace demi-cup bra I’d ever laid eyes on. The tops of her
nipples peeked out over the cups. A matching lace thong led down to sheer black
thigh-high stockings.
Whoa my God.
“Like what you see?” she asked,
knowing the answer.

The tease in her voice made me grin and step away. I undid
my belt buckle and pulled down my zipper right slow. I pushed my pants and
briefs to my ankles at the same time and then stood up to show her what she’d
done to me. My cock was full and hard and smiling. “Like what you see?” I
asked.

Candy let out a dark exhalation of pure lady lust. “What was
that cute expression you used before?” she panted. “Shitfire.”

We laughed as I lifted her up and parked her on the arm of
the outdoor couch. Then I undid the front closure of her bra. Her tits were
small and firm and round. They fit perfectly in my hands. Her nipples perked
hard against my hungry palms.

Candy let out a sweet moan as I wrapped my lips around one
of her nipples and fluttered my tongue against the tip. Then I licked the rosy
flesh in a circle and sucked again. She panted hard as I went between licking
and sucking.

I gasped when I felt her warm, wet hand around my shaft.
She’d licked her palm and started stroking me nice and slow, clasping me tight
at the base of my cock and going whisper-light around my head to keep me from
coming.
Fuck
she was good.

My mouth went to worship her other nipple and my fingers
caressed down her taut belly and slipped under the lace of her thong. Soft
curls tickled my hand as I touched along her seam. She was warm and moist
outside. Her hips twitched to show me she’d welcome an invasion. I make it a
point never to keep a lady waiting. To tease her, yes. But not to wait too
long.

Candy cried out as my fingertips stroked from her entrance
up to her clit in one smooth motion. I got so excited at how wet she was for
me. I took my mouth from her breast so I could look at her as I kneaded and
pinched her nipple with one hand and groped her with the other. With eyes
closed and lips slightly parted, her beautiful face was a portrait of pleasure.
I could make a small frown of delicious tension appear by rubbing her tiny
rosebud the right way.

Suddenly she put her hand over mine. “I need you to fuck me,
Riley,” she said with shaky breaths.

“No need to stop the other fun,” I said as I pulled her to
her feet. “Turn around, darlin’.”

Candy smiled with anticipation as she turned her back to me.
I eased her thong from her hips to her ankles. While I was down there I got a
condom out of the pocket of my pants. They were still pooled around my ankles
because I was so turned-on I forgot to take them off.

I quickly tore open the condom and rolled it on. Then I
pulled Candy up against my torso and embraced her from behind. As I squeezed
her breast with one hand I guided my cock into her with the other. She knew
just how to tilt her hips to give me better access. I moaned at the feel of her
wet warmth enclosing me inch by inch. “Ohhh God, Candy. I’m going to do right
by that sweet pussy.”

When I was fully inside her I reached around and began
rubbing her clit nice and slow. With a small cry Candy leaned forward and
braced herself against the ledge of the balcony. I followed her so I could keep
up my three-part action. I pinched her nipple and squeezed her breast. My
fingers caressed her clit as my arm braced against her hip, letting me get deep
inside her pussy. I pumped slowly at first then faster and harder.

“Riley,” she cried, “Oh, Riley, yes yes
yes!

The waves of her orgasm made her pussy clench tight around
my cock. Oh God I was close. I thrust into her like a crazed animal. She cried
out with every slam of my hips and started pushing hers back into mine. “Fuck!”
I shouted. “Oh God, Candy—”

My shouts went silent as I came so hard I couldn’t make a
sound. My entire body lit up and exploded again and again. I was flying so high
I couldn’t breathe.

I shuddered against Candy’s body and hugged her to me as I
tried to catch my breath. I was spent completely and felt kind of vulnerable.
That didn’t usually happen to me except with Lucille. I liked the way I could
remember that without exactly thinking of Lucille or missing her. Especially
when Candy held me closer to her.
Mmmm.
She surely did feel good in my
arms. We stayed that way for a few minutes and breathed together. That was real
nice too.

I didn’t want to let go but I had to unhitch from her
because of the condom. I pulled it off and looked around, not knowing where to
put it. I tossed it into an empty flowerpot. “That okay?” I asked as Candy turned
around. She laughed and nodded. “Sorry,” I said with a shrug. “I’m not used to
traveling in style.”

She had a thoughtful smile on her face. “Think you could get
used to it?”

I laughed and rolled my eyes. “Uh huh. Especially if it
involves you.”

“It would.” She wrapped her arms around my neck. “Riley,
you’re handsome, you’ve got a cute accent and the way you fuck is an art form.”
She gave me a soft kiss before she pulled back and flashed me a smile. “Baby,
I’m going to make you a star.”
