Chapter 4: Secret Fantasies

Preston and Renee walk into the kitchen. Preston says, “want a drink?” Renee says, “sure! Let’s watch a movie.” Renee sits on the couch and Preston pours them martinis. He hands one to her and sits down right next to her. He sighs, “ah it’s so nice here. Look at this place.” She nods her head sipping her martini and flicking through the tv channels. “What do you wanna watch?” she says looking at him. Preston can read between the lines as she looks down. He says, “well I kind of want to watch you.” She looks at him and says, “I thought so.”

She keeps scrolling through the channels and finds a drama, “have you seen this one?” she asks trying her best to change the subject. He looks at her, lusting. He says, “that one looks good.” She selects the movie and relaxes back with her drink putting her legs up on the coffee table. Preston stares at her legs. “No one would have to know,” he says and puts his hand gently on her leg. “I know,” she says. “Don’t think I haven’t thought of that.” She moves her hand closer to his and slowly puts it on top of his. They drink their martinis while they watch the movie, contemplating what to do next, waiting to see what the other person does.

Preston gets up slowly and says, “I’ve not always made the best decisions with girls. I don’t have the best reputation and now I realize that I could try to go down this road but it really wouldn’t be fair to you and wouldn’t be right. You’re hot as fuck and if we weren’t related, I’d go after you. But think about how we would feel in the morning. Let’s just be adults and realize that we are attracted to each other and there’s absolutely nothing we should do about it.” Renee sits up staring into space and sips the last of her martini. “I know you’re right, I was really tempted, because you’re so attractive but I often fall into thinking in the moment and not considering the consequences. This is one of those things that could stick with us for life and we have to just realize, it’s not worth it,” she says.

Preston walks away and closes the bedroom door behind him. Renee thinks about getting up and following him but instead she goes into the other bedroom and crawls under the blankets. She tries to get the image of Preston out of her mind and squeezes her eyes shut. She feels a sense of relief and drifts off to sleep.

In the morning, she wakes up and laughs, feeling totally hungover. “Ugghhhh,” she yells in her spoiled brat voice. “Preston, I feel like hell!” He yells, “ughhhhh! So do I!” He walks to her doorway and leans his forehead on the doorway. “Things really escalated quickly,” he says. She looks at him holding her head with one hand, “do you know where the advil is?” He tosses her the bottle. “How much did we drink yesterday?” She asks. “Too much,” Preston responds and continues, “let’s go get breakfast, we will feel better.”

Preston and Renee drag themselves to the breakfast buffet. The nice chef looks at them and says, “rough night?” Preston smiles and turns to Renee and says, “I think it turned out just the way it should have.” She smiles and says, “it could have been much worse that’s for sure.” Preston gets his food and sits down. Renee sits down. “All I have to say is, thank god!” She says and looks him in the eye. He looks her dead in the eye and responds, “thank god. This morning could have been very awkward and I think I’m going to seriously have to evaluate how I even let myself consider something so stupid. I haven’t been making the best decisions and I know drinking is a big part of that.” Renee nods and says, “what that woman said to me on the plane, was in my head this morning. Seriously, what am I going to do when I’m not modeling anymore? I feel like I’ve become such a shallow person. What happens if I can’t get attention from guys, how would I be happy?” Preston sips on his orange juice. “You know, they say it takes something really extreme to wake people up sometimes. I think we both just got a pretty serious wake up call. I feel like up until now, I’ve just kind of been living for myself and that’s probably how I was even able to consider making a dumb move like I was thinking about last night. I really think this all happened so we could see an opportunity to change who we are and be good people.” Renee sits for a moment and says, “I agree.” She smiles and looks at Preston, “thank you brother.”
