Fatal Affair: 1 (Courthouse Connections) (7 page)

Yes, some things had been good for her, and
it went beyond Wayne having made it possible for her to realize her dream of respectability,
an education and a career she could never have attained on her own. He’d become
her friend and confidant, her only one—until JD.

She’d always remember the good times they’d
shared, the pleasant weekends when they’d gone out on Wayne’s sailboat. They’d
enjoyed evenings together when she’d been in law school, when he’d coached her
for mock trials and tutored her for the bar exam. Later they’d discussed one of
her cases when she’d been preparing for her first jury trial.

She believed that he’d honestly enjoyed
having her at his side when he wooed voters. He’d seemed to like sharing his
knowledge of the law with her, even though he’d given up most of his practice
in favor of politics by the time they’d met.

Wayne isn’t the most ethical man I’ve
ever met. His values are definitely skewed. But he’s not a monster. He won’t
deliberately destroy me.

No, Lanie didn’t believe Wayne would ruin
her life. At least he wouldn’t do it personally. That didn’t mean that Bert
wouldn’t tear her to shreds if he thought it was politically expedient, which
would likely be the case. All she’d be able to do was try her best to keep JD’s
name from being dragged through the mud.

JD finished dictating a brief and shut off
his computer. He never imagined he’d miss Lanie so much in just a few short
days. Getting out his cell phone, he dialed her at her office, anxious to hear
her voice again. It had annoyed him the other day when she’d begged off on
spending the night at his condo because Wayne had persuaded her to show up at a
fundraiser in Plant City. He knew he was being unreasonable but he couldn’t
help it. He’d always been a demanding SOB, especially of the women in his life.

At least she’d filed the petition to
dissolve her marriage. And this time she picked up his call. “JD,” she said, “I’m
glad you called. I left my cell phone in the car when I came back from the
courthouse.”

“Are you getting ready to move out?” He
wanted her out of the senator’s reach, available to him all the time, even
though she had a point about keeping the breakup as friendly as possible. “If
you want I can get Leah to check around for suitable apartments.”

“Apartments that will allow Purrz—he’s my
kitty—aren’t easy to come by. I have a rental agent looking for lofts and
studios around Harborside. I’m tired of commuting and would like a place within
easy walking distance of my office.”

The sound of her laugh reminded him how
happy he felt when she was with him. “Are you sure you don’t want to move in
with me? My condo has plenty of room, and Scat would even have a playmate.” She
was right—it was too soon for them to move in together—in one sense they’d
hardly met, though they were a perfect match, sexually at least.

“I can’t. I promised Wayne I’d keep us
under wraps until after the election.” She sounded disappointed but not pissed
off enough to satisfy JD.

“What do you owe to him? The senator has
used you for long enough, don’t you think? Would it help if I had a serious
talk with him?” The thought of talking with his fists appealed more than it
should, but then JD wanted Lanie to himself.

“Please understand, I can’t just walk away.
Wayne has only asked for a few months, to ease into being a single man in front
of his voters. I owe him that much.”

“You don’t owe him a fucking thing, sweetheart.
You’ve already given him years of your life. Isn’t that enough?”

“No. I’ve got to do this my way. Maybe we
shouldn’t see each other at all until the divorce is final but I don’t think I
could stand not being with you. I have to go now. I’ll see you Saturday up at
Cedar Key—that is if you still want me to come.”

JD dragged a finger through his hair, not
used to compromising and not liking very much that Lanie had basically given
him the choice—do it her way or not at all. “I’ll be there waiting for you. Go
back to Plant City and play with my rings. Pretend it’s me tugging and sucking
on your pretty nipples, and wear something sexy for me.”

“JD, you’re making me hot and it’s still
three days before we meet again. Good night, before I break down and agree to
meet you here at my office.”

“Okay, okay.” He hung up, willing his
hard-on to subside so he could walk to his car without making a spectacle of
himself.

It seemed the hours barely ticked by, but
finally it was Saturday and Lanie sat on the porch at JD’s cottage, rocking
back and forth in a hammock hanging from the ceiling. He’d called to say he’d
be a few minutes late because he’d gotten a late start from Tampa.

She listened to a song that wafted along
the salty breeze from a juke box at the open-air bar across the road. The
tearjerker lyrics might have been written especially for her, she decided as
she listened to a female singer belt out words about love and guilt and the
impossibility of wanting what she couldn’t have.

Cry, hell. She wanted to scream out about
the unfairness of the desperate bargain she’d made so long ago. The nightmare
didn’t look as though it would be ending any time soon, either—she’d heard not
only from Wayne but from a furious Bert Davies while driving up there.

Damn it all, she wouldn’t think about them
now. She’d forget all the threats and cajoling and have fun with her lover. She’d
begun thinking of JD as her master during her very first visit to Cedar Key,
and she could hardly wait for him to get there and take control over her hungry
body.

She closed her eyes, imagining how he’d
look, his hair windblown and in need of a cut. He’d told her his slightly
crooked nose was a souvenir from his football-playing days for the Gators. That
small imperfection and an almost imperceptible scar on his strong chin somehow
made him seem real—imperfect and therefore more lovable, more within her realm
of possibility.

What she liked best about him was the way
he made her feel important, as though he wanted her for herself, not as an
attractive accessory to augment his own personal value.

JD was nothing like Wayne. Nothing at all.
She knew now that the eight years she’d spent with Wayne had nothing to do with
love, only with satisfying mutual need—his for a prop to bolster his image as a
devoted family man, hers for a means of dragging herself out of the mire of
poverty into which she’d been born. Put that way, she had to admit that what
she’d done made her not much better than a common prostitute—well, not much
better than an expensive call girl, even though she’d never had to put out to
earn her pay.

She laughed at herself. JD knew all about
where she came from and he didn’t care. That was a miracle, because eight years
ago she’d never thought she might someday experience the kind of sexual
chemistry she’d read about in books and heard sung about in nameless ballads
that had somehow etched themselves into her brain.

As impossible, as wrong as it was, Lanie
had fallen in love with her master—her fantasy lover. What had begun simply as
the mutual satisfaction of long-denied carnal needs had morphed in the space of
just a few weeks into so much more.

The tragedy of it all lay in the fact that
unless Wayne could persuade Bert to let her go in peace, she could never admit
how deeply she felt about JD. Not to anyone except herself, and only in the
darkness of her solitary nights.

Chapter Seven

“Where’s that agile mind of yours taking
you now, sweetheart?” JD’s deep, compelling voice poured over her like honey.

She couldn’t help wishing this could be
more than just a series of brief interludes when they had no past, no future, just
the pleasure they could bring each other for a few fleeting moments in time,
only to return to soon to their separate realities.

“I wish…” She stopped herself because she’d
vowed never to reach for more pleasure than fate had allowed her when she’d
gravitated toward her tall, powerful master on that pier in Key West. Reminding
herself their affair was transient, fueled by her loneliness and his grief, she
stood on tiptoe and brushed her lips over his.

Instant combustion—she couldn’t touch him
without wanting to take him inside her and sweep away her loneliness. She loved
looking at his face and seeing not the grief that had first attracted her but
rather the heated looks of desire. For her.

Looking up at him, she smiled, wanting him
as much as any cocaine addict yearned for a fix. “Let’s go inside now that
you’re finally here. It’s not enough just to look and talk. What I want we
can’t do out here for everyone to see. You know, you’re like a drug to me. I
can’t seem to get enough.”

He scooped her up against his broad,
muscular chest and carried her inside, laughing as he set her down next to the
bed and practically tearing off her casual maxi dress. When she was naked he
laid her in the center of the mussed-up bed, caressing her with a heated gaze
as he got rid of his jeans and faded Gators football jersey. She liked the fact
that he hadn’t bothered with underwear.

He bent and took her mouth, ravishing her
with his tongue until they both were breathless. “You have no idea how gorgeous
you look right now, all relaxed and windblown and happy to be here with me, far
away from…everything.”

He stretched out beside her and ran his
fingers through her tangled hair, his expression so intense that she sensed he
understood so much more than either of them had the right to acknowledge. “I
want to memorize every inch of you so I can keep you locked in my mind when we
have to be apart.”

Wherever he touched her, whether a light
caress with his long, thick fingers against her cheek, a possessive claiming of
her breasts or a playful journey along her belly and thighs until he found her
core, she felt his heat. She answered it with a fire of her own. “Oh God. Don’t
stop. Don’t ever stop,” she moaned against his mouth when he finally released
her mouth following a kiss that left both of them breathless.

“Easy, sweetheart. We’ve got all day.”

Yes, they had all day, but not all the
lonely days when they had to live in their separate worlds. Lanie choked back a
protest, told herself to cherish what times they had together and not risk
losing those times by grasping for something more.

She traced the hard muscles of his back, then
slid a hand around to stroke his big, rigid cock, using one finger to scoop up
the drop of lubrication at its blunt tip. She met his heated gaze as she
brought her finger to her lips and sampled the slightly salty, very welcome
essence of him. “You don’t really want to go slowly, do you?”

“You know I could fuck you all day every
day and still want more. I’m just trying to take it easy and savor this lazy
day when our only concerns are for each other.”

She’d never before heard him talk so bluntly
about what he wanted. What she wanted too but dared not try to reach out and
take, dared not even say out loud because she didn’t have the right to want to
make their fantasy real. “I know. You’re insatiable,” she said with a smile,
trying to defuse the tension, to banish feelings. Measured lust—that was the
only emotion she had the right to feel. Frantic not to think, she wrapped her
arms around JD, encouraging him to come over her and fuck her hard, to fill the
emptiness in her body and make her forget about the growing void in her soul.

“If I’m insatiable, sweetheart, then so are
you.” He rolled on top of her, nudged her legs apart with his knees and sank
inside her. “I love…I love how wet your tight little pussy gets for me.”

Had he been about to say he loved her? For
a second or two she savored that possibility, biting her lip to remind herself
she must never say those forbidden words to him as long as Bert’s threats of
ruining them both hung over her head. Then JD started to move and she couldn’t
think at all, only feel.

His heat. The weight of his hard body on
hers, the exquisite way his cock stretched her pussy as he claimed her first
gently then harder, until the force of his thrusts made her tremble—this was
his statement of possession.

Nothing about his claiming felt transient
or temporary. It had to be more than satisfying a primal urge, though that was
part of it. She wrapped her legs around his waist and held him to her as he
pounded into her, heading for the inevitable climax. She tightened her hold on
her lover, squeezed his pulsating cock, demanding…

Oh God. As she felt him jerk inside her,
felt the scalding essence of him jet deep within her body, she came. Wave after
wave of sensation began in her core and claimed her one cell at the time until
she passed out from the pure ecstasy of it all.

As JD lay in Lanie’s embrace, he sensed
that what she felt for him was way more than raw desire. Unless he was reading
her dead wrong, there was emotion deeper than just lust and casual affection in
her touch—in the tender look in her beautiful eyes whenever she met his gaze
and in dozens of small gestures that spoke more than words.

He didn’t doubt that she wanted him,
considering she was a sensual lover who by her own admission had been tied
practically her whole adult life to a man who didn’t want a normal relationship
with her. What he didn’t understand was why, now that she’d taken steps toward
freeing herself from the slimy hypocrite of a politician, she wouldn’t cut him
clean out of her life.

Her capitulation to help Winstead get
re-elected one last time galled JD. Hell, what really pissed him off was her
misguided loyalty to the senator at his expense. He wanted to take her to his
club, connect with her in front of friends and acquaintances. He wanted the
freedom to have her at his side at the professional events they both attended,
without making any effort to conceal their personal relationship. Hell, he
needed to incorporate her into his life so completely that there’d be no room
there for Senator Wayne Winstead or anybody else.

Nobody—especially not Lanie, who had such a
capacity for love and loyalty—should have to live her life in a personal
relationship as cold and calculated as a legal contract. JD knew all about
those, having drafted enough of those sterile agreements to ensure specific
performance in ways that were advantageous to his clients. The difference was
that his clients were corporations, not living, breathing people.

Fuck. If Lanie would leave it up to him, JD
would get her out of her slimy politician husband’s grasp once and for all. She
willingly submitted to him in bed. He wanted her to step back, put her life in
his hands and let him persuade Winstead and the manipulative bastard of a
campaign manager who pulled his strings that they should back off and let her
go in peace.

He got the sense from Lanie that Winstead
was the puppet, Bert Davies the puppet-master in that disgusting duo. JD had
bested Davies before on behalf of various clients. He’d love to go after him on
a personal level with Lanie’s freedom as his pay.

He didn’t notice until Lanie stirred in his
arms that he’d wound up his body as tight as a ball of string, thinking how
satisfying it would be to beat Winstead and Davies into bloody pulp. He hadn’t
exerted physical violence on anybody since his days on the football field but
he recognized that bloodlust in himself and sighed. “Sorry, sweetheart.”

Then he rolled on top of her, clapped her
in the cuffs he’d softened before with his old neckties and proceeded to
dominate her, this time as roughly as he’d taken her gently moments ago.

“I want you helpless to me, as helpless as
you seem to be toward the senator,” he muttered as he threaded ropes over the
rails on either side of the posts that connected the headboard and footboard,
and hooked her ankle cuffs onto the ropes. Then he reached inside a chest she
hadn’t noticed earlier at the foot of the bed and set a large plastic bag on
the bed within easy reach. “Some toys I bought, just in case…”

He had obviously prepared for more than
what, he’d assured her last weekend, had up to now been basically vanilla sex
with a few mild kinks tossed in for flavor. Now she felt totally vulnerable,
restrained as she was with her pussy raised, fully open to whatever her master
might decide to do. When he stretched out between her legs and began to lick
her from clit to asshole, though, she started to squirm at the exquisite
torture. “Please don’t stop, Master.”

“You don’t talk unless I give you
permission. I think I’ll have to gag you.”

“Please, no.” When he rifled through the
bag and came up with a red ball gag, she didn’t know whether she wanted to
shout the safe word he’d given her—what was that word again?
Entailed.

Or…

There was something incredibly arousing in
knowing that her master had her completely under his control, that he was
solely responsible for her pleasure.

When he rubbed the gag against her cheek,
she opened her mouth and he inserted the pliable rubber. When he slid the strap
through her hair and buckled it, he used his fingers to caress the back of her
head. It felt…arousing. Almost as arousing as the feeling of his wet, slick
tongue exploring the nooks and crannies between her legs.

“There. Now you won’t be talking out of
turn.”

Would he flog her? She recalled the look of
tortured ecstasy on Wayne’s face when his master had whipped him, wondered if
she’d find it as arousing as it obviously would be painful. She trusted JD,
though. When they’d talked on the phone earlier in the week about all the scary
but tantalizing things he intended to do to her, he’d assured her that he’d
always give her more pleasure than pain.

JD dug in the bag again and came out with a
gold clip dangling from two long chains. “When I put these on you, I can play
with your clit and your tits at the same time.” He tweaked her nipples and gave
each of his rings a tug, then attached the chains and laid the clip out against
her belly.

Positioning himself between her splayed
legs once more he lowered his head and kissed the spot where she’d waxed her
mound for him. “You’re my good little sub, aren’t you?”

All she could do was make a small, guttural
sound around the gag, so she nodded as best she could. God, but his breath on
her clit had blood pooling there. Knowing he could see how wet and swollen she
already was made her want him…

Oh God. He had her clit between his thumb
and forefinger, stretching the little nub until it hurt. The clip bit down, bringing
pain but also a new awareness, a fierce arousal that he enhanced by wiggling
the chains.

When he tongued the tip of her clit, she
shuddered. It felt…incredible, as though he’d found all the nerve endings in
her body and titillated them at once.

“You like that, don’t you?” He blew on her
clit again, then took a strange looking ring out of the bag and rose on his
knees. “I imagine it feels something like this ring feels on my cock. You’ve
got me so hot I’m ready to go off and I’m not nearly through playing with my
precious sub.” He drew his massive erection through the elastic ring first,
then stretched it further and worked one testicle through at a time until his
sex was fully contained.

“I’ve got a feeling I’ll have to do this
often when we go play at the club,” he commented with a smile. “Years of
abstinence have played havoc with my control.”

She looked at him, wanted him inside her
cunt now, stretching her, forcing the climax that hung on a fine thread of
pleasure-pain, but instead he adjusted her position so she was accessible to
his mouth and tongue-fucked her cunt until she was desperate for release.

He raised his head and looked into her
eyes, his face glistening from her juices. “You’ve never tried anal play, have
you?”

No!
She
shook her head as he ringed her anus with a finger then worked it gently past
the barrier. It felt strange, this small invasion.

Wayne obviously had liked having his master
ass-fuck him. She wasn’t too sure she wouldn’t enjoy that too, but…

“It can feel good. Yeah, I’ve tried it,” he
said as though he knew what she’d been wondering. “Don’t worry about finding
out how it feels to take my cock up your pretty ass right now. You’re way too
tight.” She felt him nudge her ass with something else he’d removed from the
bag. “This butt plug will give you an idea how it will feel when you’re ready
to give your ass to me.”

When he’d worked the plug all the way
inside her, she stung. But it gave her a not-unpleasant sense of fullness.

“Do you want this?” He rubbed his cock
against the wet, swollen entrance to her vagina. “You don’t need to talk—I can
tell by the way you’re squirming that you’re ready.” He lowered her torso on
the ropes until all he had to do was thrust forward.

She’d never felt so helpless yet so full.
So ready to take all the pleasure he could give her. She loved the way his big
hands felt on her buttocks, holding her steady for his hard, deep thrusts.

“Baby, I’m gonna come. Can’t hold it back.”
He sounded tortured but when she felt his semen jetting against her cervix, she
had the strongest climax of her life.

It was much later when he removed the gag,
released her from her bonds and held her as though he’d never let her go. “I
can’t believe I’m asking you this just now,” he said, his tone apologetic. “Are
you on the pill?”
