"Oh." I feel a wave of relief. "You scared me there."

He pulls me back down next to him. "Are you willing? To create a family with me?"

A family. Children. Soren as a father. Me as a mother. The cycle of life. I feel something sacred and happy deep within me. I've always loved creating. For my whole life, it's come through with my cooking. But this... This would be the ultimate act of creation.

Tears fill my eyes and I reach up to cup his cheek. "Of course." I can barely speak. "I would love that more than anything else."

"Oh, Nita," he says, and leans down to kiss me again. "Oh, my love."

My werebear kisses me, and I lose myself in a happiness so true and beautiful that I can't believe it's mine.

Joanna Kilmarten sat in her patrol car watching night fall over the town. Arresting Mr. Whitman had been the highlight of her short career as a volunteer police officer, and it had given her the confidence to really take on a challenge: to catch the Honeycomb Falls cat burglar. The thief that had recently begun stealing the most precious valuables in town, pulling off impossible stunts as he broke into bedrooms and offices.

Maybe then Chief LaBonte would start taking her seriously. Maybe then he'd give her a chance to fill the spot that retiring officer Bardwell was leaving. All she had to do was catch this cat burglar in the act, and bring him in by herself. He was out there right now, prowling the streets, looking for his next victim.
