  Under Marcus's and Pa's management, the Lander Ranch became one of the biggest in northwest Kansas. Marcus and Bethel had three children. He became noted for his Angus cattle and worked as a Kansas state senator to improve agriculture. Liberty became a professor in Prairieview College where she was a role model for young people. Virgil explored the West. His strong spirit created goodwill among all peoples as he stressed caring for the land.
