Night Sky (Satan's Sinners MC Book 3) (26 page)

After the third shot, he had dropped to the ground and I knew he was dead, but I was going to make damn well sure of it. For the second time, I have taken a life, but I am happy to have the blood on my hands if it means protecting the people I love.

I get down on my knees next to Ever and see the blood seeping out of her pink top. It looks like only one bullet hit her, going straight through her lower back and out the front of her abdomen. Jacey is down on the ground next to me, she rips part of her shirt off, bunching it up and placing it against the wound. Jacey uses her hands to hold the shirt in place and applying pressure to try and stop the bleeding.

Ever are you okay?”

She coughs, lifting her hands.
It's cold, it hurts. My closet. Box. Writer.

Ever goes unconscious. I feel to make sure there is still a pulse, it's faint, but it's there. I swipe the tears away before I go into action. We don't have much time, we have to get Ever to a hospital.

I run over to the guy, checking his pockets for more ammo. I find one more loaded mag. I grab it, along with his gun and the other mag he was putting into the gun.

Jacey yells for me. “Zoey we still have to get out of here! We don't know where the third guy is. It looks like we are outside of town. We have to find a house or somewhere we can find a phone.”

“I'm not leaving her here. It's bad enough we left Chasyr, you can't ask me to leave my sister,” I inform her as I make my way back to them.

“I'm not asking you to. We are going to have to pick her up and carry her. She is unconscious right now, so it will be like dead weight. We have to start moving, the other guy could be coming.”

“Okay, let's do it.”

We pull Ever up and with me on one side and Jacey on the other, we start moving. I remember to ask her the question that has been in the back of my mind.

“Jacey, when the those guys came into the room with us, why did you look like you knew one of them?”

“Because I do know one of them.”

Come Wake Me Up by Rascal Flatts

I tried to sleep last night, but the darkness never came. I keep picturing Ever being held somewhere against her will and my anger bubbles to the surface. I have destroyed my room from throwing shit around, breaking shit, and punching the walls, leaving big gaping holes. My knuckles are raw and bloody. I have to keep my shoes on so I don't cut my feet on the broken glass that is now covering my floor.

At a time like this before I would have probably used drugs to escape, but I can't think about that right now. Ever needs me. I have to figure out how to get her back, how to get them all back. Where do I start though, when I have no idea where these guys are, who they are, or why they would take them?

Early this morning we dealt with the cops going to the storage units, and of course they didn't find anything once again. They were pissed once again, and Hanger had a talk with Jenkins once again. I figure pretty soon, if it continues, we will no longer have the good ol' sheriff on our payroll if he lets this shit go on.

As soon as we got back to the clubhouse, I came straight to my room and have been in here ever since.

I want to be alone. I can't deal with other people right now. I need to get my girl back.

I jump up into a sitting position on my bed when my bedroom door busts open. Hanger comes in, signing frantically.
You need to get into the chapel now.
He turns to leave and I jump off of my bed, shut and lock my door, and I stay right behind him all the way to the chapel.

When we get in there I see all of our brothers are already here, sitting and waiting. Bleak expressions plastered on all of their faces, tired eyes watch us walk into the room. Bear looks exactly like how I feel, which is like shit, and I can tell he hasn't slept. Hanger looks the same as us, but furious. Not one of us got a wink of sleep, but yet here we are, antsy as fuck to see if there is new information.

I take my seat. Hanger picks up a box beside him and starts to hand it to me. I know that box, it's my box he was supposed to give to Ever. When Hanger lets go, he signs,
Ever took this with her when they left. I found them on the floor in the store. I wanted to give them back to you.

Sympathy leaves his features as church begins.

“I got a call from the kidnappers. They let me talk to Crazy Girl for a minute. She assured me that everyone is fine.”

All the guys start getting worked up; mouths moving, hands and fists banging down on the table. Some are out of their seats while others sit on the edge.

“I need everyone to calm down. We all want to get them back and no one more than Bear, Writer, and I, but we need to get them back safely. Hacker, please tell me you have something.”
I watch as Hanger's shoulders sag, head drops, then he slumps down into his chair.

He has nothing yet.

What the fuck are we gonna do, Hanger? We have to get them back.

I tell him as I start getting more concerned because I know the longer it takes, the less chance we have of finding them alive.

“I know, Writer. We’ll find them.”
His eyes are showing not as much confidence.

★★★

We have been in this room sitting around this table for hours, trying to come up with something, anything, to get them back. It's so fuckin' hard and frustrating when we know nothing about these guys.

Who is leading them?

Where they would take our women?

How dangerous are they?

Hanger has called Snake to see if he has any information and he has nothing. I'm starting to think it is a lost cause, that I am never going to see her beautiful face again. Hanger also had to call Sophia and Grant to tell them that not one, but both of their daughters are missing. Sophia cried while Grant went ballistic. After Hanger settled them, told them that we are on it and we will find them, they agreed to stay and keep not only their grandkids, but Bear and Lil Mama's kids as well. Fuck, I hope we can keep our promise of finding them and those kids won't have to be without their moms.

We are all tired, stressed out, frustrated and out of options. The door to the room opens up and Snake walks through, shutting it behind him. Bear gets up as well as Hanger and they talk to Snake. I watch as Snake gives Bear a hug and then stands in front of Hanger. They are both awkward at first, and I can see they are talking, but then Snake pulls Hanger in for a hug also and I am kind of shocked that Hanger let him, with everything that came to light. My shock quickly turns to surprise as I watch Hanger hold on for dear life as he breaks down.

Snake walks over to me, pats my back as he takes a seat at the table. Bear goes back to his seat, and Hanger takes his spot at the head of the table while running a hand down his broken face.

Right before Hanger gets sat down, he pulls his phone out of his pocket. I watch on the edge of my seat as anticipation fills me. Hanger's brows pull together tightly before he answers, that lets me know he doesn't recognize the number. His eyes grow wide, his mouth moves at rapid speed, he looks at me then to Bear. His fingers make a snapping motion at Romeo then points to me.

I look around the room until my eyes land on Romeo, all of the guys are out of their seats and moving to the door. I hold my hands out and shrug I know my eyes are huge. Romeo starts to sign with sadness in his features.
It's Crazy Girl...they escaped. Chasyr isn't with them, he made them leave him there. We have to meet them at the hospital.

Why? Why do we have to meet them at the hospital? What are you not telling me?
My gut clenches. I know something has happened and he doesn't want to tell me.

I think it's best if Hanger tells you.
Romeo stops signing and runs his hands over his face and into his hair.

Hanger hangs up, his eyes have filled with unshed tears while he looks at me.
We have to go to the hospital because...Ever was shot, Writer.

That one sentence has me out of my seat, running out of the clubhouse and heading straight for the hospital.

Motherfucker, she has to be okay. She has to make it through so I can tell her how much I love her. I have to tell her that we are going to work this shit out, once and for all. I have to tell her I want our forever thing and that she is my everything more. No more wasting time.

EVER

Fall Into Me by Brantley Gilbert

I slowly open my eyes, blink a few times and look around the room to see where I am at. I'm in the hospital with an I.V. in my hand, there are machines off to the side. I remember Chasyr making us leave him, us escaping, running and getting out. I remember feeling a sudden white-hot pain shoot through my back.

Oh my God! Did I get shot?

Thank god we made it out! I try moving my legs around, but I can't they are so heavy. I look down at my lap and tears well up in my eyes. Writer's head is in my lap with one arm draped across my thighs, he's sleeping so peacefully.

He's here with me!

I lift my arm, place my hand on his head, then run my fingers through his silky-soft dark-brown hair. Writer's head snaps up, eyes frantic until they land on me. He immediately settles, tears shine in his eyes, and his lips form the sexy smile I have missed so much.

I feel my own smile grow as I sign to him.
You're here.

I place my hand on his cheek and rub my thumb against his smooth skin. He leans into my touch, closing his eyes and I relish in the familiar leather and musk scent that is Writer.

I wouldn't be anywhere else. God baby, I thought I lost you! I was so fuckin' scared.
The wetness from unshed tears coats his thick black lashes.

I drop my hand so I can reply,
You will never lose me. Did I get shot? How long have I been out?

Yes! The bullet went straight through so they stitched you up. You got real lucky, it missed all vital organs and you will make a full recovery. It's been about sixteen hours.
