“You look so beautiful!” – Sophie exclaimed with tears in her eyes – “No wonder people cry at weddings!”

Anne hugged her friend, tightly: “You have always been my best friend Sophie.”

Someone knocked at the door.

“Yes?” – Sophie answered it. It was Mrs. Weber. She walked in, looking at Anne: “My child, you look breathtaking!”

“Thank you, Mrs. Weber.”

“Everything is ready downstairs. And, someone is here to see you.”

Anne’s father walked in the room. The man she got into a huge fight with, the man that dishonored her in disgrace from her family.

“Anne, my child… I am so sorry…” – He said and he started crying.

Anne ran to him, hugging him:  “It’s okay daddy. It’s all water under the bridge. I still love you.”

“I love you too Anne. Would you do me the honor of allowing me to walk you down the aisle?”

Anne smiled: “Nothing would make me happier.”

After a while, it was time. She walked down the stairs, with her dad on her right side, holding him under his arm. She was emotional, to say the least. All her fantasies not only came to fruition, but they were all far better than what she was imagining.

They climbed down the stairs and walked outside on the huge balcony that was decorated especially for the wedding. People stood up as they saw them approaching, looking at the bride and commenting how beautiful she was.

At the end, stood Max. He was as dashing as ever and just by looking at him, she felt weak in the knees. He wasn’t alone though: Max was holding Grace by the hand as they were both looking at Anne.

Anne’s dad brought her to Max and gave his daughter away.

“Congratulations, my son.” – He said, stepping back.

Grace ran to her mom, pulling her down and hugging her: “Mommy, mommy you look like a princess!”

“So do you my baby!”

She stood up, and Mike took her hand. The three of them stood in front of the minister, holding hands. She looked at him and smiled.

“I figured since you hid something from me, I get to hide something from you.” – He whispered.

“You are such a devil.” – She smiled.

“May I begin?” – The minister asked.

Anne and Max both looked towards each other and said: “Yes.”

“We are all gathered here today…” – The minister began.

Anne was not listening to a word he was saying. Her heart was about to explode from happiness. Max was here with her and he wanted to be with her for the rest of their lives.

Chapter Fourteen

I woke up in the hospital, luckily uninjured and couldn’t help but realize how stupid I was. I was angry at the only woman that has given me anything....a child. I had to make things right.

Once my family got there and I told them the truth, I knew what had to be done.

“Are you sure she won’t say “no”?” – Sophie asked, and I had to admit: “I am not sure at anything about Sophie. This is what I want to happen. If she says no, so be it.”

The arrangements were all done in secret. As much as I was enjoying the whole thing, I couldn’t help but think how drastically my life was changed in the last three days.

Coming from a player to a married guy with a kid, was a huge step, but I was ready for it. I needed my family by my side, now and forever.

There was one last thing I had to do before the wedding. The night after I got out of the hospital, I went to her parents’ house.

As much as I understood they abandoned their daughter for ditching a good career and having a child out of wedlock, I had to make things right.

I walked in their house and I explained everything. I told them how Anne had sacrificed everything for me and my career. I told them how I didn’t even know about Grace until I came back home. And, most importantly, I told them I am ready to be their son-in-law, if they would have me.

Her mom cried, her dad shook my hand: “You are a real man, Max.”

I arranged for them to be at my house so that he can walk her to the aisle. Everything was going perfect.

The day of the wedding, once we got to the house and Sophie took Anne up the stairs, I knew it was the moment of truth. And, I was terrified.

I kept thinking that once Anne founds out whose wedding it really is, she will leave. I was so nervous I didn’t know how to calm myself down.

“Max? Are you my daddy?” – A tiny voice brought me back to reality.

I looked down to see this little angel, the perfect combination of beauty, standing next to me, holding me by my hand.

“Yes, Gracie I am. Only if you’ll have me.”

“I want you to be my daddy, if mommy says it's ok.” – She said with a level of innocence that only a child could have. She turned towards me, hugging me. I almost started crying.

I took her in my hands and kissed her: “I am your dad. And I am really happy that you are my daughter. You are the best daughter in the world.”

We stood there, hugging until my mom came over: “It is time. Let’s go downstairs.”

I nodded. “Ready as I can be.” – I smiled, putting Grace down on the floor and taking her by the hand: “Are you ready?”

“For what?” – She asked.

“To be a family.” – I said.

She took my hand and nodded.
