CHAPTER 8

Two Weeks Later

Claudia waited patiently by Asher’s bed, watching him sleep.  His health was fully restored now that he wasn't consistently injected with poison.  She contentedly gazed at Asher’s powerful body and felt a stirring of agreement come from her womb.  Smiling, Claudia looked down and placed her hand fondly on her small baby bump.  The little monster inside is what had saved both her and Asher from imminent death, and she would always and forever thank their child for that.

“Wake up daddy,” Claudia whispered, looking at Asher.

Asher opened his eyes from, still groggy from sleep.  He looked over at Claudia and saw her, healthy and glowing, and he too felt very gratified.  Asher couldn’t help the tears of joy that rolled down his cheeks as he reached over and felt the life of the baby living inside of Claudia. He finally had a family again. And, with the king gone, he was now the rightful ruler of the dragons.

“So, do you still want to live on your own? As a free woman?” He asked, willing to do anything for her.  “You know I will respect what you choose, but before you say anything, I want you to know that it would do me great honor if you were to be my queen.

Claudia laughed and playfully slapped his shoulder. “After everything we’ve been through? Put a wedding ring on me, baby, I’m all yours.”
