Sir Finn of Glenrydlen (2 page)

I see, and what about you?” asked the knight to
the third child who'd also been a part of the gang. They looked on,
shaking their head.

I didn't do anything, Sir!” said the
boy.

The child on
the ground began to stand, and she brushed some of the detritus and
soil from her red and brown dress. “That's right, Sir, he was just
here at the time, and I was stealing an apple, I really wanted
one.”

I've heard enough!” said Sir Finn with a mighty
and deep energy in his voice. “Get on my horse, please, I'm taking
you to the castle”.

She trembled,
and said “I'm sorry! Please, I was just hungry!”

No, I don't mind about the apple, I want to give
you apples and clean you up, and introduce you to a person who you
may know already. Princess Bracken is looking for a friend and I
think you'd be perfect. What do you say?” Asked Sir
Finn.

She didn't say
a word, only raised both her arms for the knight to pick her up and
place her in front of him on the horse. He shifted a little to give
her some saddle room and then they both jumped back over the hedge
and back along the lane. The three children in the orchard could
only stand and watch as she was taken away in style.

What's your name?” asked Sir Finn, “and what time
do you have to be home?”
