Starkissed (18 page)

“You suck,” I laugh and lightly punch him on the shoulder. He reaches for me again, and this time he kisses me on the lips. His touch is soft and teasing and he slides his hands gently up my sides before cupping them around my cheeks. I reach up and lightly rest my right hand against the center of his chest. Through his shirt I feel the beat of his heart and the warmth of his skin. He pulls his lips free, but presses his forehead against mine. I can feel his breath, warm on my cheek, and I want so badly to push myself against him, to feel his touch on every inch of my skin. I want him to kiss me again. But he just smiles and sighs.

“Maybe you ought to start reading more tabloids after all.”

Epilogue

Zombie Boy and Girlfriend make it to one year.

While most are celebrating the release of Deadest of Nights tonight in theaters, we’d like to reflect on the fact that exactly one year ago today cute-as-button Sydney Kane tossed herself into our beloved Grant West’s arms and proclaimed she loved him in front of the entire world. Or at least a great majority of the American Press. While most bet their relationship would fizzle immediately – after all it was revealed that their initial coupling was a hoax brought on my Grant’s Summer Stone stomped heart – they’re still going strong. In fact Sydney herself has announced via Twitter that she plans to attend NYU in the fall. It’s still unclear whether she’ll be moving into the dorms or Grant’s Manhattan Penthouse. Either way, these two are breaking expectations and teenage girls’ hearts wherever they go.

“Sydney!” My dad’s voice rips through the downstairs hall.

I poke my head out of the living room and call back. “What?”

“You are not moving in with that boy!”

“I know Dad. I know.”

Acknowledgements

First and foremost, I have to thank my mom, Marjorie Gabrielson, who passed away in 2008. Though she’s not here to see me finally publish, her influence, love, and support has been with me every day of my life, and she continues to inspire me to live my dreams no matter what. Thank you Mom.

I also have to thank my dad, Gary, who has been there to hold me up and push me forward at every turn. This book wouldn’t have been possible without him.

Thanks to all of my writing professors at Vancouver Island University who taught me the in and outs of the written word, and special thanks to professor Kathy Page and my fellow work-shop students in Crew 321 who saw me through the inception and execution of Starkissed, all your feedback and input was essential.

And to all the others who have been there for me and believed in me through the years, thank you so much. I would try and list you all, but then I’d forget someone and it would be awkward. So instead, just imagine your name on this page and know that you, (insert name here), mean the world to me.
