Taking Sides (ARC Operatives Book 2) (9 page)

All she could think of was heat, and perfect, and wet, and
yes
as lines of pleasure raced along her limbs and need coiled tighter and tighter inside her around his cock. He wasn’t even breathing hard, instead just staring at her like she was something beautiful, his hand slipping up to cradle the side of her face as he wrecked her down below.

Daria’s breath caught in her throat once, and then twice as he slipped inside her hard, hips angling up so he rubbed right into the sensitive ridge on the front of her pussy and she exploded outwards. Her thighs strained, legs shaking and she cried out his name, her fingers tangling in his hair as she hung on tight.

“Daria,
Mila
,” suddenly Nicolai’s breath was faltering, his hands clenching and releasing on her legs as he closed his eyes tight. She could feel it in him, the hitch of his hips as he tried to get deeper into her, get closer to her, that he needed it, needed to come-

“I love you,” she breathed out, her whole body one big shiver as he took his pleasure from her. His eyes snapped open and his lips parted. He didn’t make a single sound, his hips freezing against hers. She felt the warm pulse of his cock inside her as he drained himself into her. A light shake ran down his spine and then he dropped his head to her shoulder.

“I…” he was panting, his forehead sweaty against her skin and she nipped her arms around his waist to pull him in tight as he let her thighs slip down his body. What was between them, what they’d done, was beautiful, and had erased all that had happened. Her heart was settled as she cradled his head against her chest and just listened to him breathe. She loved him. He didn’t need to say it back. She
adored
him.

His fingers brushed over her sides, thumbs stroking up over her ribs, in silent reverence to her body. He finally lifted his head and kissed her, mouth warm and so perfect on hers.

“I love you,” he whispered, planting a kiss on her cheek and then the corner of her temple. “I love you, I love you.” Those words, in his accent, with his arms holding her tight like he was worried she’d be yanked from him… her heart nearly collapsed in on itself from feeling too much. She thought she might explode, disintegrate into a fine dust of nothing as he placed gentle kiss after kiss all over her face and murmured that he adored her, he lived for her, he loved her.

She fought back the tears that were welling up, fizzing along her cheeks, because she didn’t want him to get the wrong idea. But when he stroked his thumb under one eye gently, catching a droplet of salt-wet moisture he only smiled.

“You’re not going to ask if I wanna stay the night?” her words were dry and soft, her throat parched from the heavy breathing and all the exercise he’d put her throat. He just shook his head.

“It is not even a question for me,” he replied, landing another kiss square on her lips. “I know it is not a question for you.” He shifted, slipping out of her and then wrapped her up in his arms.

Nicolai pulled her against his chest and she burrowed against him, feeling safe and warm in his embrace.

“Where are we going,” she wondered as he started moving towards the staircase. She knew, but she wanted to hear it from him.

“It’s bed time.” He was taking it slow just for her, not racing up the stairs like she knew he could.

“Nico, it’s not even two in the afternoon,” she protested, but a smile was curling at the corners of her lips as he started up the stairs.

Nicolai adjusted his grip on her, holding her tighter.

“As I said,” he murmured, his voice a low buzz in his chest she could feel as much as hear, “it is bed time.”

TAKING CHANCES

By Audrey Noire

Daria Griffin returns in the 3
rd
ARC Operatives novella. More assured than ever of her growing relationship with augmented human, Nicolai Novik, and doing great in her job as an agent with ARC, everything seems to be looking up for Daria. Then she is given the opportunity to undergo augmentation herself. Nico is against it, tells her that the trade offs aren’t worth it, and heavily discourages her from pursuing the idea.

With her two regular senior agents, Rykov and Balfour out of the city on a deep undercover mission, she’s given the task of babysitting a visiting agent from a west-coast based government organization. But the man goes missing before she can even meet him at the airpot. Now with a boyfriend who’s not talking to her, and special guest who’s not where he’s supposed to be, Daria needs to prove to Nico she trusts his judgement while showing him that he should trust hers… all while tracking down her lost agent before anyone at ARC realizes he’s gone. It’s another explosive mission, and this time absolutely everything is riding on Daria’s shoulders.
