Thoughtless Sacrifice (2 page)

His words
haunted me to this day...
'If you could do
it to him, then I'm pretty sure one day you could do it
again!'

I could never hurt my Mr Golden
Rule... Ever!! I loved and craved him more than ever. Maxwell saved
me from hell. Blake’s mother hated me and was determined to get rid
of me.

I sat back on my heels and
pulled him round to face me. I stared deeply into his luscious blue
eyes. “It's my birthday next week” I began and he was listening. “I
thought we could all go away for the weekend.”

He looked away. “And you spoke
about this with Riley?” I could hear the annoyed tone in his
authorizing voice.

Maxwell!” I
let out a frustrating scream.

George!”

I grabbed hold of his hand.
“Please,” I begged. “We never spend any time with together.” I
stopped and could feel the tears building up in my eyes. “I don't
want us to drift apart.” My voice was full of agony and I had to
look away.

His fingertip slowly trailed
along my cheek down to under my chin. He lifted my head so our eyes
locked again. “Don't be stupid,” his voice filled with the same
agony. “We will never drift apart. I would never allow it. If you
want to go away, then we will all go away.”

Really” I
beamed.

Really,” he
beamed back. I wrapped my arms around his strong neck and hugged
him with all my life. “I will do anything to keep you happy, Mrs
Thomas,” he whispered into my ear.

Me too,” I
whispered back.

Suddenly he pulled away and he
was giving me the cold stare. “Then why did you change the drop off
point we had discussed?”

I shook my head and looked down
at my hands. “Don't start.”

How is this
starting?”

He was frustrating at times.
Always swapping from bossy Maxwell to my lover Maxwell. It really
did annoy me. I was a 29 year old woman. You would think I could go
anywhere I pleased.

I couldn't be bothered to argue
with him. I had to get my clothes ready for work tomorrow. I got up
and made by way into our shared walk-in dressing room.

I had come along way since my
waitress days. I now lived in a massive house in Sunset Plaza Drive
LA. The house was beautiful with views to die for. I owned 50
percent of a business, a mother of two -- kind of and wardrobe full
of designer clothes.

I didn't actually know anyone,
so I didn't have much choice but to shop. My eyes wandered over to
my vintage dressing table. I walked over and sat down.

I pulled my jewellery box over
and lifted up the lid. It contained my most precious possession, my
heart pendant necklace. I slowly lifted it out and admired it.
Maxwell had given it to me for a birthday present.

I ran my
finger along the crack down the middle. A little smile came to my
lips as I remembered his saying –
“The
golden rule, Miss Dawson. The golden rule.”
This was his way of saying never mix business with pleasure.
They were the days, most stressful, but yet uplifting experience
ever. I have to admit all that sneaking around was fun.

You still
have it?” I could feel his presence behind me. He sat down next to
me on the stool, draped his arms around me and rested his head on
my shoulder. “I designed that myself.”

I love it” I
smiled contently. “I shall never part with it.”

He took the necklace off me and
admired it. “Where do you want to go next weekend?” He placed my
necklace back in the jewellery box and closed the lid.

I would love
to take the kids to Disney Land” I replied full of
excitement.

Maxwell gave a little laugh.
“Of all the places and you want to go to Florida?”

Florida?” I
shook my head. Didn’t he know me by now? “Paris” I
corrected.

Paris?” He
played with the word, his head moving side to side as he thought
about it. “That can be arranged. Anything else you would like to do
in Paris?”

My eyes widen with greed. “Have
dinner at the Eiffel Tower.”

He stood up and held out his
hand. “Then your wish is my command, Mrs Thomas. Come, bed!” He
ordered, I grabbed hold of his hand and allowed him to escort me
into our bedroom. A whole weekend in Paris, I couldn't wait.

Olivia was sitting at the
breakfast bar reading. She was always reading, shame it was a
fashion magazine and not her homework. She was 11 years old going
on 20 and hated me.

Morning
Olivia,” I smiled.

She looked up and then back at
her magazine. “Can I go to the Mall after school?” She asked in her
pure American accent.

I walked over to the breakfast
bar and placed my hands down. “Who are you going with?” I asked
standing opposite her.

Cadence’s
Mom.”

I looked closely at her, she
was lying and I knew she was lying. Then again, I was young once. I
had to give her the benefit of the doubt. “Okay... But Jay will
escort you.”

Olivia jumped up out of her
seat. “Oh my god!” She screamed. “Where's my Dad? He'll let me go
without Jay.”

Mr Thomas
left first thing this morning” Maddy our Nanny replied, placing my
morning coffee next to me. Olivia stamped her foot in her normal
spoilt brat way. “I hate you all” she screamed and stormed off out
of the kitchen.

I took my seat and finally
allowed my attention to focus on my little boy. He was such a well
behaved little chap and the spitting image of his father, right
down to the red hair. “Hello, Bailey” I smiled, reaching out for
his hand. He smiled and carried on eating his eggs.

Mr Thomas
told me about the trip to Paris” Maddy said with excitement. She
was a very beautiful woman in her late 40's. I hired her because of
the friendliness that shone out of her. Also, she was married to
Jay. We had converted part of the house as a little flat for
them.

He did?” I
looked confused. “What exactly did he say?”

That next
weekend we are all going to Paris.”

We?” I
chocked on my coffee.

Me and Jay
will be joining you. How much fun, I have never been to Paris
before,” she smiled and walked away. I stared down at my coffee. I
thought it was a family trip and now he had asked the hired help to
come along.

Why couldn't we just be normal
for one weekend?

CHAPTER
THREE

Maxwell

And that is
the penthouse?” I asked, sitting back in my chair. “Good... No, we
will be flying on my private plane.” I looked up at my wife
standing before me, glaring and her hands on her hips. She was
wearing her famous pencil skirt and a tight fitting blouse with
buttons done up – At least she had listened to me
yesterday.

She looked very pissed off and
a little smirk came to my lips. Everything about her oozed
sexiness. “Okay, I will call you back.” I put the phone down and
smiled at her, her mouth tightened. Something told me I was in
trouble. “Mrs Thomas” I laughed.

You invited
Maddy and Jay?” She yelled.

I shrugged my shoulders.
“Yes.”

Her hands ran up to her hair
and she gave a little tug. “How is it a family trip if you invite
the Nanny and driver?”

I rubbed my brow in annoyance,
nothing ever pleased this woman. “You said you wanted to go for
dinner” I reminded her. “We will need a baby sitter and I can't
invite Maddy without Jay.”

Suddenly she looked dumb struck
and her cheeks flushed. “Oh,” she sighed. Even though she looked
every inch the powerful business woman, she was still my tiny
bashful Miss Dawson. I tapped my knee. Instantly she walked over
and sat down on my lap.

Don't worry,
I've been thinking” I began, running my fingertips through her soft
hair. “You're right. I need to spend more time with you and the
kids.”

Really” She
looked up at me through her eyelashes.

Really,” I
kissed her cheek. “My family is the most important factor in my
life. I want to make it up to you. After work let’s go to
McDonalds?”

She screwed her nose up.
“McDonalds?” Her face looked blank. “How is a big Mac and fries
romantic?”

I gave a little chuckle. She
didn't understand. I grabbed hold of face with both hands. “The one
with our favourite rest room.” I raised my eyebrows and gave her my
special smile.

Her mouth opened in shock. I
wasn't sure whether it was because I had suggested it or that I had
even remembered. Anyway, she looks very impressed.

You have
yourself a date, Mr Thomas” her soft lips met mine in a deep
lingering kiss. She slowly stood up and her eyes diverted to the
bulge in my trousers. “Tame yourself till later,” she winked. She
smoothed down her skirt and began to walk out of the
office.

I was a fucking lucky man. I
had a beautiful wife, two wonderful children, and a nice home and
now I was richer than ever. Oh yeah, I was the envy of every living
man.

***

I was sat in the car being
driven to my next meeting. All I ever did was get driven round to
listen to others bore me to death. I loved my business, but
sometimes everything just felt the same.

I closed my eyes and my mind
filled with thoughts of my wife. How I couldn't wait for work to be
over. Last night when she said she didn't want us to drift apart
had opened my eyes. It had hit me like a ton of bricks.

Even after everything we had
been though we were still together. My feelings had never changed
for her. I still felt exactly same way I did when I first saw her
sat in my reception on her interview.

I rested my head on the back of
the seat and let out a little air. I was 36 years old and I had
everything. A smug smile came to my lips. I needed to get the old
Maxwell back; the one Georgina had introduced me to.

My eyes sprung open. “Jay!” I
called out in my boss voice. “Take me to Agent Provocateur on
Melrose.” I watched Jay's eyebrows shoot in the rear-view mirror.
“Don't look like that” I laughed. “You're a married man, you know
how it is.”

Certainly, Mr
Thomas.”

He pulled up outside the store.
“One more thing,” I said, opening the car door. “Ring Georgina and
tell her to meet us outside the office in twenty minutes.” I threw
my phone on to the passenger seat and got out. I had to get her
something special. Mrs Thomas was going to have fun playing my
game.....

I waited with the goody bag
close to me. I looked at my watch, trust her to be late. I only
asked her to step outside. I bet she was gossiping with her
assistant Eva. Finally the car door opened and Georgina jumped
in.

I leaned over and kissed her.
“Day off” I said suggestively.

What have you
got planned?”

As
inquisitive as ever, Mrs Thomas” I joked, as I sat back up. “We are
going on a little adventure... Mr Golden Rule and Miss Dawson
style.” She began to bite down on the lip. “Exactly” I
smiled.

It felt like the good old days
where we would just drop everything to get our fix of each other. I
gripped hold of her hand and held it tight.

Then a pang of sadness hit me
and I looked out of the window to hide my facial expression. I
nearly lost her more than once. The thought that we may not have
even got married nor had Bailey broke my heart. It was too painful
to think about.

Debbie wasn't allowed to have
any contact with us, which pleased me greatly. As for Blake we left
him and his mental mother far behind in Oxford. Although according
to a client Mrs Waterman had died a few months ago.

We pulled up outside the Hilton
Hotel and Georgina's jaw dropped in astonishment. “Why didn't I
guess?” Giving her girly giggle, that sound sent the tingles run
down my spine.

If needs
must” I hissed, picking up my goody bag and getting out of the car.
Jay opened the door for Georgina and I walked round to meet her.
For a moment, everything seemed to go into slow motion. I watched
as her long in luring legs gracefully swept out of the car. She
still affected every aspect of my heart, body and soul. We were
born for each other and no one could take that away.

She linked arms with me and I
escorted into the hotel and over to the reception.” Welcome to the
Hilton Hotel” the receptionist smiled. “How can I help you?”

I have a
reservation for Mr and Mrs Thomas.”

The receptionist narrowed her
eyes and began typing on her computer. I guess it did look really
odd – Two people in the middle of the day, wearing business clothes
checking into a hotel suite. I think it would have been worse if I
had said Mr and Mrs Smith.

I need a
credit card.” I handed over my platinum card. The receptionist
looked at it and back at me. “I see your name is Mr Thomas,” she
said sarcastically as her eyes looked me up and down.

And I am Mrs
Thomas” Georgina spat, holding up her wedding ring hand. The
receptionist blushed and quickly handed us our key and my credit
card.

Enjoy your
stay,” she mumbled, not looking back at Georgina.

I and Georgina headed towards
the lift. “Did you see how she looked at you?”

Are we
jealous?” I laughed, the doors opened and we both stepped
inside.

Of course,
another woman looking at my husband and implying that I was some
dirty whore you were paying for.”
