When We Meet Again (40 page)

"Nor shall it be dull." She smiled in a wicked manner. "And I daresay I shall give as good as I get."

"I should warn you as well, Pamela, Serenissima"—his gaze searched hers—"I said good-bye to you four years ago when I did not know what I was losing and again yesterday when I did. I shall not say good-bye to you again."

She laughed, a sound of pure joy that echoed in his heart. In his soul. "Nor shall I let you until the moment you draw your last breath. You shall never be rid of me."

"I can ask for nothing more although I should very much like to kiss you now." His voice was low and intense with the emotion that swelled within him. "But we are not alone."

"Ah well, so much for propriety." She sighed and drew his lips to her. For a long moment he lost himself in the feel of her mouth on his, his body pressed to hers, her life now and always entwined with his. Halves of a whole at last reunited. A soul rejoined. They were star-crossed no more.

And their ending would be very, very good.

About the Author

VICTORIA ALEXANDER was an award-winning television reporter until she discovered fiction was much more fun than real life. She turned to writing full time and has never looked back. Victoria grew up traveling the country as an Air Force brat and is now settled in Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband, two teenaged children, and a bearded collie named Sam. She firmly believes housework is a four-letter word, there are no calories in anything eaten standing up, procrastination is an art form, and it's never too soon to panic.
