Saints and Assassins (The Sentinels) (26 page)

“That’s wonderful Adam.” Eve tiptoed up to kiss him on the cheek.

“Mmmm. Do you think I could get another kiss if I told you I got him a job too?” Adam smirked.

“Yes.”
She tiptoed up again to kiss his other cheek and Adam smiled back at her.

“Do you k
now all of your tenants
?”
He obviously
did
have a social side to him, but he must not use it very often.

“No. Just a few.” Adam’s tone had changed back to his normal professional level and Eve sighed.

“Oh good, the brooding Adam is back. There for a moment I thought he had left.” Eve rolled her eyes at him.

“What are you talking about?” he asked.
His tone remained dark.

“Um, hello! You were all sickeningly sweet and nice with Jessie, but thank goodness you stopped that. I thought I was going to vomit.” Eve giggled and couldn’t help it as she broke into laughter.

The look on Adam’s face made her laugh even more. He was absolutely clueless as to what she was talking about. That made the moment even more precious for her. He didn’t even know he had a soft side.

The elevator bell dinged again and they were on Adam’s floor. He still stood there staring at her as the doors opened.

“I don’t understand what’s so funny.”
Adam stood there stoically waiting for her reply, but Eve couldn’t say anything. She couldn’t stop laughing even though she saw a glint of anger in his eyes. She didn’t care.

A second later, she found herself being thrown over Adam’s shoulder and heading toward the door of the apartment.

“Put me down, you lummox!” she squealed. Adam carried her through the door, kept her over his shoulder while she flailed about. Locking the door, he turned back toward the great room and swiftly crossed it.

“Put me down!” Eve repeated. Trying to straighten up she fought to get free.

“Nope.” Adam threw both arms around her and walked on.

They entered the bedroom and when Adam sat down on the edge of the bed, Eve thought he might let her go, but he didn’t. Instead,
he shifted her so that she was bent over one leg and pinned there with the other while Adam grasped her wrists with one hand.

“You’re going to pay for laughing at me,” he hissed.

Before she could catch up to the moment, he slapped her ass hard.

“Ow!” she screamed. The sting wasn’t that bad, but the action had shocked her.

Then came another swat. She writhed in his grip to no avail. The third swat was lower on her backside, between her legs.

Eve moaned as the new sensation rippled through her body. Suddenly, she stopped fighting as her focus shifted. The tingling from the spanking engrossed her. She wanted more.

“Are you going to laugh at me again?” Adam asked in a tone so low that she felt the vibration of it inside her.

Eve nodded, yes. If her defiance would bring on another
spanking then yes, she would laugh at him.

Adam loosed his grip on her enough that he could raise her up while she remained between his legs.

“You like being spanked?” he whispered. Eve felt him pressed his nose against her hair and then he softly kissed her cheek.

Eve bit her lip and turned her head toward him. She felt her cheeks warm as she nodded. Adam leaned back and she saw a smile cross his face.

This experience was new for her and she wanted more. Adam must have sensed her need as he quickly pinned her against his leg again.

With a quick slap, she felt the sting of his hand between her legs. The sensation sent her body into a frenzy and she cried out as it brought her closer to orgasm.

Her breathing became more ragged with each swat and by the seventh
one
and
yes,
she counted them, she wanted him inside of her.

Adam swatted her once again and before she had even a second to let her body process the rippling sensations the spankings had caused, Adam pulled her back.
Laying
her on the bed, he grasped the button of her jeans and pulled it loose.

Swiftly, he pulled her zipper down and then pulled her jeans and panties off.
Eve wanted the burning sated.

Adam unbuttoned his pants and pulled the zipper down, but only freed himself of the pants without taking them off. She smiled at his hurried movements. He wanted his own satisfaction and it
brought Eve to the edge again.

Without another word, Adam pulled her body toward his and entered her. He growled and as he started rocking against her, she let out a growl of her own.
He stretched her body with his and she
wanted to remember that feeling forever. They belonged together.

With his hands on her hips, he thrust himself deep inside of her and she felt her orgasm mounding.
Pounding harder against her, she felt
the fabric of his pants between them and that friction just escalated the sensation
. She wanted this more than she had wanted him the first time.

Then, Adam wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her so that she was sitting on his lap. She felt him slide even deeper inside of her and she grasped his shoulders tightly as he lifted her up and down.

“Come with me,” he whispered.

Eve dug her fingernails into his shoulders as she
felt her body obey his command. With the next thrust, she came crying out his name. Adam followed her c
ry with a growl as she felt him still inside her.

Once the last wave had moved over her, breathlessly she leaned against him. She rubbed her face against the crisp cotton of his shirt and realized that she was still
half-dressed
and technically Adam was fully clothed.

Eve smiled
to herself at their haste. She could feel Adam’s heartbeat against her hand and felt it slow down as they sat there for a long moment.

Finally disrupting the moment, Adam lifted her off him and sat her down on the bed. Eve watched him as he turned and scooted off the bed. Standing there with his shirt half tucked in, his pants undone and his manhood exposed. Eve grinned at him.

“I would be careful if I were you.” Adam’s eyes narrowed, but he let a grin spread across his face and she started laughing at him.

“Oh you are going to be in serious trouble if you don’t learn to control that.” Adam teased her. He unbuttoned the first two buttons of his shirt, pulled it over his head, and then kicked of his shoes. Eve watched as he pulled his pants off and she knew then that she might be in for more
trouble
.

Adam sauntered over to the bed. Eve thought he was going to lie down with her, but instead he scooped her up in his arms.

“Let’s go shower.”

Adam carried her into the bathroom and sat her down next to the large glass shower. He turned on the water while Eve watched.

Just as they were stepping inside, Adam’s phone rang.

“Go ahead. I’ll be right back.” Adam
shut the door behind her as the water cascaded over her.

Eve washed her hair and while she waited for Adam to return. All the while, she wondered how she deserved a man such as him. He had watched over her, saved her, and loved her. She already knew that he would literally take a bullet for her.

As she sat down on the tile bench to shave her legs, she
recalled Adam with the little girl in the elevator. The moment had warmed her heart and she wondered if he could truly be happy with her even if she couldn’t give him a child. He had given her so much and she had nothing for him in return except her love. Would that be enough?

Eve pushed that fear deep into her
mental file. He knew she could not
h
ave children and she
hope
d
that they might be able to adopt some day.

The shower door opening brought her back to the present and she couldn’t help but smile as Adam climbed into the shower.

“I’m almost done,” she stated. Adam feigned a smile. Something was wrong.

Adam stepped under the water while Eve finished shaving quickly. He hadn’t said anything and she knew this couldn’t be good. Eve slid her hands around his waist and leaned against his back.

Tell me about your call.”

Adam dropped his hands from his hair down to hers and held her there.

“We have to leave now. Our travel arrangements are made and
we are
ready to go. Things need to settle down a bit and then we’ll do some work to get rid of this guy, an
d better yet Sanders.” Th
e venom in his tone was obvious, but
his actions were
gentle as he
turned around in her arms and held her.

“All right. Just as long as we’re together right?”

“Always,” he replied softly.

Chapter
9.

Adam grabbed a small suitcase from his closet and threw it on the bed, in it he placed
her
clothes, some things of his and the jewelry box. H
e went back to the bathroom for something and she remembered the bracelet. Eve found the gift bag in the living room and tucked it beneath her clothes in the suitcase. Moments later Adam
returned c
arrying two pistols and a several
boxe
s of ammunition. As he laid
them into the
suitcase,
he dialed a number on his cell phone. He instructed Sam to be out front in five minutes.

“Eve,
it’s
tim
e to leave,” he stated coldly. She
had put on
her boots and just had to get her
coat.

S
he pulled on her coat
and walked toward the door with Adam
,
not saying a word.
The silence betw
een them in the elevator left her uneasy, but b
e
fore she knew it
they
were in the lobby.
Sa
ra stood as they passed by, and Eve
could not
help but notice tha
t Adam wouldn’t even look at Sara
.
He obviously was still
pissed. Eve smiled at her
though
, and Sara returned the gesture.

Eve realized that she didn’t know if or when she would ever see Sara again or even be back in Adam’s apartment again.

“Adam, I need
something from my apartment,” she
told him
.
She remembered the box in her
closet there. It was a shoebox of miscellaneous things, pictures, jewelry, and mementos.

“We can buy whatever you need when we get there,” he answered. His tone was still cold.

“No, no I
can’t. It’s just a small box, but I can’t leave it. It’s all I hav
e left of . . .” He looked at her
and seemed
to understand, it was all that she had left of her
past with Michael.
He immediately ordered Sam to drive
to her
apartment. Adam insisted that
Eve
stay in the car w
hile he retrieved the box for her
.
Eve
didn’t feel any need to argue so
she
stayed put. He returned quickly thank goodness. His smile appeared on his fac
e as he got back into the car. Finally, she
felt at ease again.

“Next stop Sam,” ordered Adam.

She held the box tightly as they
rode t
hrough the streets of Chicago. She
thought of the good things that had happened this week and how many mo
re good things were to come if she
could just manage to stay alive.
There were so many things that she tried to process right then. Where they would be in twenty-four hours was at the top of her list though.

Adam wrapped one arm around her and leaned his head against hers.

“I’m sorry,

Adam whispered.

“Please don’t be sorry, it’s not your fault. We’re leaving so it doesn’t matter and I couldn’t be happier to be alive than I am now.
” Eve turned toward him and placed a kiss on his lips. Oh how he tasted.

Then another random thought popped into her head. “
The keypad, is that just a coincidence or is that my . .
.” Adam placed his hand on hers
and smiled.

“Your birthday, no it’s not a coincidence. I told you I was completely, undeniably i
n love with you,” he answered. She reveled at the thought of him being so head-over-heels for her that he changed his door code to her birthdate.

Sam stopped the limousine
in front of
the
building on Washington Street. Eve wasn’t sure what they were doing, but she guessed that she would be waiting in the car. She waited patiently as Sam go
t
out, but when he opened her door she was slightly surprised.
