Saints and Assassins (The Sentinels) (34 page)

“Thank you. That’s all I can think to say, I guess I’m glad t
hat the killing has stopped.
Your name truly fits you
, you know. You are a saint,” she
added.

“No more than you are an angel my love,” he replied. His hand slid to touch
her stomach. She
remembered
her dream and it
s location
.

“Adam where will we go when we leave here?”

“I don’t have a preference. Where would you like to go?” he asked.

“I want to go back to Maui and live. It’s my favorit
e place, it’s warm and sunny.” Eve
sat up on
her
knees excitedly as
she
described the island. It was perfect.

“It sounds perfect to me. I would imagine that Koa would like nothing more than to rub in the fact that he was right about us.” Adam gently grasped
her
hands inside of his.

“I’m sure he would love that. I hope you liked the Spam by the way.”

“It was fine, why?” he smiled inquisitively.

“Well, it’s one of the main meats from the mainland there
.” Eve
laughed. “Oh and it’s a good thing that we have a lot of money because Twinkies cost about five dollars a box and if I’m going to get through the next eight months, we’ll have to stock up.”

Adam rolled his eyes as he leaned toward
her. He took her
mouth with his and gently laid
her
back on the bed.

Epilogue

“Adam, don’t forget the sunscreen!”
Eve called back to him as she
walked out the front door of the house. Adam appeared through the doorway shortly.

“Go
t it,” he said holding it up. They
were going to walk down to the beach from
their
house. “Don’t forget this little trinket,” he added as he scooped up Iolani. She g
iggled as her dad tickled her. Eve smiled at the pair.
Io
lani’s curly brown hair bounced
as she flopped around in Adam’s arms. Her name meant Bird of Heaven, and she definitely was.

Adam set her down, they
each took a hand and s
tarted to go to the beach. As they
walked,
Eve
held one of Iolani’s hands while Adam held the other.
They
had walked thro
ugh the sand for a moment when Eve stopped. She
looked down at Iolani
and she smiled staring back up at her
.

“Mama,” she said tugging at
her
arm.
Eve couldn’t move as she
stared at her
daughter’s
tiny face with those big brown eyes and brown hair.

“Eve, are you all right?” Adam asked
. “Eve,” he said again shaking her
shoulder.

“I’m sorry. Adam, it’s my dream. Every minute de
tail of this was in my dream,” she
stammered out. He held Iolani in one arm
and wrapped the other around Eve
.

“It’s all good don’t you think? Everything that you dreamed came true, that’s a good thing,” he said as
he nudged her
forward.

“Yes, it is.” Eve
was jus
t stunned, caught off guard as she
realized that this
was
all
meant to be. Adam and Eve
were meant to be together and bring this wonderful child into the world.
Did
she have a special purpose she
wondered, other than to bring love to all of those that she came into contact with?
She felt certain that
most parents wonder
ed
the same thing about their children, but something told
her
there was more than a normal life ahead for Iolani.
