Wicked Thing (C.O.A Series Book 2) (39 page)

Yes, she’d known exactly what she was doing tonight but it felt so good to be in Grey’s arms. It was so familiar and perfect
.
Her libido had been seriously amped up lately and it was becoming a bit of an issue
. She quickly set her alarm for five am. The doors opened and she padded down the hall with her high heels in her hands, entered her room and got herself ready for bed, noting that she was still drunk as she teetered over while trying to remove her underwear. Just as she slipped under the covers, pulled them up over her head and closed her eyes, Kayn arrived.

She heard her fiddling around and then Kayn screamed into her pillow.

Lexy started to quietly chuckle and without lifting her head off of her pillow she teased, “Jenna caught you guys too, didn’t she?”

Kayn gave her a muffled reply and she didn’t need to look because she could tell Kayn’s face was probably still buried in her pillow, “Yes, she did. She also caught me trying to sneak up to his room after she told us not to.”

Lexy started to giggle as she looked up at her. Kayn lifted her face up from the pillow and tossed it at her. She started to howl.

Kayn hissed, “Glad you think this is so funny.”

Lexy made herself comfortable and sparred, “Tomorrow morning when you wake up, this whole fiasco will be nothing more than a laughable memory. Jenna expects you three newbies to throw a little bit of rebellion into the mix. It’s totally normal for someone your age.”

She didn’t really have an excuse for her behavior this evening
.

Everything was quiet for a minute and she was just beginning to relax when Kayn blurted out, “Can you turn the whole viewing everybody’s aura part of being a healer off?”

Lexy rolled over to face her again and answered, “No, but it just becomes normal after a while. You can turn it down a bit. It’s strongest when your body’s been freshly healed. You’ll notice it beginning to dim over the next few days. Well, that’s only if you haven’t had to use your healing ability for anything.”

“We’d better get some sleep. The alarm on my cell is set for five am. We need to be back on the road in four hours,” Lexy whispered.

Kayn responded, “Night, Lex.”

Lexy closed her eyes again and allowed her mind to shut itself down and she slipped into the most beautiful dream. It was a highlight reel of her forty years with Grey. She awoke to the song on her alarm with a smile on her face but when Lexy tried to stand she found her legs wobbly and comically unreliable. It took her a moment to allow her deviances to filter through the fog of her hangover.
Yes, she’d been very naughty last night. What happened in Vegas might have stayed in Vegas if Jenna had given them twenty minutes before knocking on that door.

Lexy quickly got ready, read the long detailed text on her cell phone explaining the job and then she drank a crazy amount of water from a plastic covered cup by the sink. She stared at her frazzled looking reflection. She felt rough and it was time to share the wealth. She grinned, ran over and leapt onto Kayn’s bed, “Wake up! Wake up! There’s no time to waste. I’ll explain on the way to the truck.”

Kayn stretched and then launched herself into an upright position. She yawned, stretched again and snatched her backpack off of the chair as she sauntered past it on her way to the bathroom. Lexy lounged out on the lumpy uncomfortable bed and as she recalled the conversation she’d had with Kayn before they went to sleep, she grinned.
Today was going to be equally awkward for everyone.
The two Dragons of Ankh grabbed their bags and ambled down the long emerald colored carpet in the hallway towards the elevator in their flip flops opting for a more logical choice of footwear.

Lexy pressed the button and started to explain the text she’d been sent, “Astrid, Melody, and Haley are hiding with Molly. They’re in a small town in the desert. It’s only a few hours’ drive on the highway and then we’ll have to take the back roads for at least three more hours, to make sure we’re not being followed. Apparently, the drive has some amazing scenery though. Jenna, Markus and Orin are taking the boy with them. Jenna’s premonition said we need to split them up for a while if we’re going to stand a chance of keeping them both. I guess Zach’s already gone to get the truck.”

The elevator door opened to reveal Frost, Grey, and Lily with bags in hand, also on their way down to the lobby. She stepped into the elevator and Frost looked at Kayn and teased, “Going down?”

Kayn gave him absolutely no reaction to the naughty meaning behind his words as she responded with a straight face, “Yes, we’re quite obviously both going down.” Everyone’s cheeks burst into a smile and the immature giggling began.

Lexy elbowed her and sparred, “Speak for yourself.”

Kayn gave in and started to laugh. Lily asked for all of their key cards, strolled over and placed them on the empty front desk. They all stood outside looking haggard and worn after a night of partying and waited for Zach to show up with the truck. Grey took her hand and she smiled through the fog as they saw their truck coming down the street towards them. Zach pulled over and they all quickly got in.

Lexy strolled around to the driver’s side and offered, “I’ll drive first if you want to get some more sleep, Zach.” He nodded and moved into the back seat.

Chapter 22
Duct-tape Tuxedo

L
exy fiddled around trying to find a good station and was just about to pull away when someone knocked on the window. She took in the shifty jittery movements of the man standing beside the truck and rolled her eyes.
Really? Was this dip shit really going to attempt a carjacking? She was too hung over for this shit
. Lexy sighed, rolled down the window a bit and super sweetly said, “Is there a problem, sir?”

The shady looking man replied, “Your back tires are almost flat and you have a broken tail light. I thought I’d warn you before you drove too far on them and bent the rim.”

Lexy tried to keep a straight face as she replied, “Oh, thank you for telling me. I’ll be right out, sweetie.” She rolled up the window.

Zach leaned over the front seat and whispered in her ear, “The tires are fine.” Then he sat back down.

No Shit, Sherlock!
She glanced back at Zach with an innocent smile and said, “Oh, I’m sure they are.”

Attempting to be the voice of reason Frost pointed out, “There’s cameras all over the place. You’re going to have to handle this tool carefully.”

This guy was too cranked up to feel any pain.
Lexy stretched a few times, yawned and announced, “Lock it as soon as I get out. I’ll only be a second.” She opened the door and stepped out, ready for her Oscar worthy performance as a naive southern belle in the big city.

Grey grinned and slowly shook his head. Lexy winked at her Handler as she heard the sound of the lock clicking behind her as Grey sighed, “That poor unknowing dumbass.”

Lexy strolled around to the back of the truck, looked at the tires and stated, “The tires are fine. Are you really sure you want to do this?”

The man, realizing she was on to him, yanked a gun out of his pocket and hissed, “That’s right bitch. The truck’s fine. So, fine in fact that it’s screaming my name. Tell those shits to get out. I’d hate to wreck your beautiful smile by forcing you to eat a bullet.”

Lexy took a good look around at where the cameras might be positioned and dared, “Oh, would you like the keys? They’re in my pocket. Tell you what if you can take the keys from me, you can just have the truck.” She allowed him to press the gun into her shoulder and he put one arm around her neck as he began to search through her pockets. She started to giggle.

Lexy’s assailant hissed, “Do you want me to shoot you? I told you to tell those assholes to get the hell out of the truck! What kind of sadistic friends do you have? They’re all smiling at me. I’m, going to effing kill you.” He shoved her towards the driver’s side door.

“No, you’re not. They know I’m allowing you to point your little gun at me, and they also know I’m going to kick your ass as soon as I grow tired of playing along,” she sparred. Lexy allowed him to toss her up against the hood of the truck and she laughed harder.
She was going to pee herself if this skinny fragile little man didn’t stop his cranked up testosterone show
.

Grey rolled the window down a little and made a suggestion, “Hey, Honey. While you’re playing with this moron don’t let him accidentally shoot the engine or anything. That would be inconvenient. We have places to be. Can you wrap this up?”

Lexy sighed, “Alright, the game is over my friend. I’ll give you one more opportunity to walk away.” She took a step towards him and a shot rang out.
That dick!
Lexy barely flinched as the blood seeped through her shirt.
A shoulder shot wasn’t even going to wreck her morning
. She moved aside her shirt to show him the wound as it closed up and spit the bullet out and exclaimed, “Now, that wasn’t very nice.”

“What are you?” He stammered as he dropped the gun on the cement and ran away.

Lexy contemplated the merits of just getting into the truck and driving away but when she looked down at the bloodstain on her new shirt she realized that they wouldn’t be able to stop and wash it. It was now nothing more than a rag and she actually liked this shirt. On principal alone she needed to kick this tweeker’s ass. She looked at Grey and hissed, “He wrecked my new shirt.” Lexy kicked off her flip flops and sprinted away from the truck barefoot after the man that shot her.

She heard Grey yelp, “Oh, Shit!

Lexy casually jogged after the guy that shot her knowing she couldn’t grab him until after he was off of the main streets because this was Vegas and inevitably there would be cameras…almost everywhere. Frost was probably already on the phone with the Aries Group covering up her shooting and healing. It happened right in front of the hotel.
Whoops
…predictably her assailant swerved into a shadowed alley and the second they were both out of view she nabbed him by his shirt and as he struggled in an absolutely ridiculous way. Lexy looked around to see what she had to work with. Fortunately, there were a couple rolls of duct tape and some rope lying beside the dumpster.
What were the chances of that? Guess this was her lucky day.
Lexy glared at the mortal as he continued his futile struggle, her voiced dripped with sarcasm as she said, “Now, what am I going to do with you? You wrecked my shirt.” His struggling and screaming was beginning to annoy her. It was more what he was screaming than the pitch.

He kept shrieking, “Aliens!”

Lexy had always found that assumption slightly offensive and so she tore his shirt off of him, stuffed it into his mouth to shut him up, and then duct-taped it in place so he wouldn’t be able to spit it out. She grinned as she looked at the roll of duct-tape and just decided to go with it. By the time Grey showed up she had her assailant muffled, his clothes had been torn off and he’d been strung up with full body duct-tape, skillfully tethered to the ladder of the fire escape. She was applying the final touch, duct tape right up the crack of his bare ass and she couldn’t stop giggling.

She heard her Handler’s frustrated voice, “What in the hell, Lex?”

“I’m almost done,” she assured as she duct-taped his gun sideways to his forehead
. It was missing something

If only she had a jiffy marker to draw a quick bow tie on his neck. They were in Vegas after all
.
Oh, well…No, duct tape tuxedo for the sketchy mortal
.
Next time
…Finally, quite satisfied with the diabolical genius of her work, Lexy hopped down from her perch to the addition of Kayn and Zach’s astonished expressions. Grey was just standing there shaking his head pretending he didn’t think her creation was awesome, but she knew him better than that.

Lexy smiled proudly at her incredibly twisted work of art and announced, “I’m willing to bet that this was not the first time you’ve used that weapon on someone. Don’t worry the police will be here soon to get you down. If you haven’t used that gun for any other crimes, you’ll probably be free to go.” The man started to squirm and wriggle around in his duct tape suit. She grinned, “That’s what I thought. Gee, I sure hope it’s not excruciatingly painful when they remove the duct tape from your butt crack. You know people pay big bucks for the Brazilian that you’re about to get for free. No, need to thank me. Have a lovely morning.” She wandered away with a little skip in her step.

The others pulled up in the truck and they all got out and stood around in awe of Lexy’s duct-tape creation.

Frost stared up at the wriggling scum bag and questioned, “Why does the kid look so mortified.”

Kayn knew he was talking about Zach. She grinned from ear to ear and replied, “He’s naked under that duct tape. He’s also wearing a duct tape G-string. Think about it for a second. Let it sink in.”

Lily started to giggle and soon everyone was howling while the man continued his valiant attempt to free himself.

Lexy got into the truck, picked up her cell, called 911 and creatively reported her assailant in a way that was certain to make sure he had the most uncomfortable day possible. The light went off to signal the end of her call.

Grey opened the door and hollered, “Let’s go. This guy has a date with a body cavity search.”

The man let out more muffled screams as he flailed around.

They all climbed into the truck and sped away while Grey told the group what Lexy had said to the police. “She told the police that man was a drug smuggler. He just arrived on a flight and his car broke down. So, he tried to car jack us and we caught him.” They’d been driving for many hours before the group managed to stop laughing every time somebody brought up duct tape guy. Frost finally turned off of the highway and they began to drive down the back roads.

He glanced into the rearview mirror, and explained, “We need to drive the rest of the way on the back roads. We’re almost there. I need to see if we’re being followed. On the highway it’s a difficult thing to know for sure.”

Grey piped in, “Hey, when are we stopping for brunch? My stomach’s been singing for over an hour.”
